The Company commenced in 1989 with the union of PCS Consulting Engineers and BMP-CAD to embrace computer design technology and to unite this with multi-discipline engineering capabilities. AEC introduced the concept of integrated design and construction management, resulting in the efficient development of complex commercial, industrial and technical projects. The founding partners, Charles Hill and Ian Bird, were well known in their respective fields as design consultants, combining over 45 years experience in engineering design and project management. |
An enthusiastic team of engineers and technical staff was developed, covering the range of project disciplines and producing and impressive capacity, able to offer the latest in engineering design techniques within a solid background of experience in a practical format. Emphasis was placed on design co-ordination, budget planning and strong on-site presence from the beginning.
In early 1993, the hydraulic consultant firm, PT Ritchie & Associates, was incorporated into AEC to increase its multi-discipline capacity. The Firm further increased its capabilities in the following years with Lyndonn Harnell achieving certification as a quality assurance assessor, as well as developing activities in the petro-chemical field.
AEC has developed the capacity to provide complete planning, design and construction management services through the establishment in 1997 of a permanent joint venture operation with ICG Fleming; an industrial contracting firm based in Wagga Wagga, NSW. This operation, trading as AEC-Fleming, has completed a number of design/construction projects with considerable success.
AEC's main design office in Canberra, ACT, maintains facilities to cover the range of engineering project disciplines offered by the Firm. It is equipped with a complete range of engineering and documentation software, compatible with most client and design/construction organisations. Emphasis on electronic communications facilities provides the capability to operate projects anywhere in Australia, providing complete project logistics.
The Firm is able to handle single or multi-discipline work of various sizes and at all levels from audit reports, through minor design, to complete project packages. A strong 'hands on' policy during construction has earned a high regard by clients. AEC provides a flexible service to engineering requirements in a wide range of projects and locations. Projects have ranged from a large satellite communication station in Queensland to chemical process plant design and construction in Western NSW. The same enthusiasm and attention to the client's needs has been applied to all. About 80% of AEC's projects are repeat business from satisfied clients. |
